Message the roof and you will have an inherently less-stiff structure - regardless of the reinforcements applied to the structure (short of a roll cage that is).

Take any driveway apron diagonally in a T-top car and you can hear the creaking that results from the chassis flex. But keep in mind, it's not that bad for the T-top cars. If you jack up the front end for an oil change and you happen to have the T-tops out, you can still open and close the doors. I seem to recall Corvette C-4 owners can't make that same claim....
